The 24-year-old Sydneysider, known for his diminutive stature and acrobatic playing style, emerged victorious with a score of 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-3), earning his place in the Open for just the second time, following a previous campaign in 2024.
Despite a first-round exit in his only prior major appearance, Sweeny's current ranking of No.182 in the world showcases his remarkable progress. After Thursday's emotional win, he expressed his disbelief and gratitude, reflecting on his journey from a low ranking of 700.
