The Zero Day
A zero day, a term familiar to hikers, is a day of rest and recovery. Our travelers seized this opportunity, checking into a hotel and indulging in the simple pleasures of a hot bath and a hearty breakfast. The weather, a rare gift for hikers, provided the perfect backdrop for a day of rejuvenation.
Tough Decisions
One of the most challenging aspects of their journey was the decision to leave their beloved dog, Turkenna, behind. Despite her unwavering enthusiasm and resilience, the rugged terrain ahead posed a risk to her paw pads. It was a heart-wrenching choice, but one made with love and responsibility.

Back on the Trail
As they prepared to leave, a rainy forecast greeted them. But for Turkenna, rainy days were a delight. Her Ruffwear rain jacket kept her dry, and a small towel became their luxury item, a reminder of the comforts of home.
The hike that day was a slow and steady one. After a zero day, our hikers found themselves dragging, a common phenomenon. They reached a gas station for lunch, a much-needed energy boost, before tackling the trail again.

The rain poured as they climbed, but they reached the Mark Noepel Shelter by mid-afternoon. There, they were greeted by a familiar face, Sandman, a fellow hiker they hadn't seen in a while. The shelter became a haven, a place to dry off, feed Turkenna, and rest.
