A recent fuel fiasco has left a trail of damaged vehicles and frustrated customers in its wake. With 30 complaints flooding in, Gas N Go, a Vancouver Island gas station chain, finds itself at the center of a controversy.
The story begins with Shirley Ward, a Denman Island resident, who experienced firsthand the consequences of filling up at Gas N Go's Buckley Bay location. Her brand-new 2025 Mazda refused to start, leaving her stranded and in need of a tow. Mechanics soon discovered the culprit: water in the fuel, a result of an issue with the ethanol content.
But here's where it gets controversial. Despite promises from Gas N Go's owner, Wayne Procter, to "make it right," customers like Shirley are still awaiting resolutions. She and her husband incurred nearly $1,200 in expenses for towing, repairs, and a rental car, and yet, they're still waiting for a response.
"I understand there are dozens of people on the island and in Union Bay who faced similar issues on December 18th and 19th," Shirley said. And she's right; local Facebook pages are abuzz with complaints.
Procter attributes the problem to a slight deviation in the ethanol content of the fuel, which could affect a car's performance temporarily. However, he assures that the issue has been rectified and that he's working to resolve all complaints.
"We're doing our best to ensure everyone is taken care of," Procter stated. "It was a busy time around the holidays, but we're committed to making things right."
As for Shirley Ward's complaint, Procter claims his team is awaiting confirmation before processing her reimbursement.
